Ephesians 6:11-18, K.J.V.
Put on the whole
Armour of God, that ye may
be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood,
but against principalities,
against powers, against the rulers of the
darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
Wherefore take unto you the whole Armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day,
and having done all, to stand.
Stand therefore, having your loins girt
about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness. And your feet shod with the preparation of
the gospel of peace. Above all, taking the shield of faith,
wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the
sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Praying always with all prayer and
supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and
supplication for all saints;
As we consider the Word of God and this passage in particular, we come to realize that most important piece of armament that we have is the Word of God. God, in His Word, has given us everything thing that we need to gain, obtain, and maintain a victorious life. Through God's Word we can have victory. There are way to many Christian folks living defeated lives, and I think it can be traced back to one thing they are not reading and embracing God's Holy Word.
Lets examine the passage above, and find out that the Word of God is all and everything we'll ever need to live victoriously.
Ephesians 6:11 starts out by describing to us the kind of conflict that we are involved in. It says:
Put on the whole
Armour of God, that ye may
be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood,
but against principalities,
against powers, against the rulers of the
darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
Every man that's ever lived has had to deal with this conflict. Every man that's ever lived has had to fight this fight. Every man that's ever lived has found themselves in the middle of this battle.
Even Jesus had to confront the enemy of God.
The
devil came to Jesus 3 times in the wilderness at the end of his fast and tried
to get the Lord to compromise His position as Savior and Lord, and each time He
presented something Jesus fought him off and brushed him back with the word of
God. He said
“IT IS WRITTEN”
The WORD is the most important peace of armor and defense we have.
*>>>When we continue in Ephesians chapter 6 and run down the list of our armor 4
out of the 6 of the items listed speak specifically about the WORD being our
defense.
Let
me break it down for you.
I. Eph 6:14
Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth,
When
your looking for truth to put on we have to go to the word, because The WORD is
the definition of Truth. Jesus said:
John
17:17
Sanctify them through thy
truth: thy word is truth.
II. and
having on the breastplate of righteousness;
His
Word Is our Righteousness
Psalms 119:172
My tongue shall speak of thy word: for all thy commandments are righteousness.
Your breastplate is His word
III. 15 And
your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
What
is the Gospel? My Webster's Dictionary say’s it’s the teachings of Christ.
Where are the Teachings of Christ kept? In the WORD of God
IV. 16
Above all, taking the shield of faith,
Where does Faith Come from? Faith can only be obtained through the Word of God.
Rom 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
In
other words, No Word No Faith.
V.
wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. 17 And
take the helmet of salvation,
Now this piece of our armor, is not specifically the Word, but the one in whom we find salvation is the Word. Let me explain what I mean.
We obtain salvation, through Jesus which is the Word. The Bible tells us that Jesus is the Word.
John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. skipping to verse 14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
It's only through Jesus that you and I obtain salvation. The Bible proclaims:
Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
Lastly:
VI. and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
The
last part of this verse, is pretty plain your
sword is the WORD.
There is your defense laying in front of you GOD has ASSURED you PROTECTION in
His Word. He said Use this Armour and take this defense and you WILL be able to
STAND.
This verse tells us to embark upon every day with the full armor of God strapped on. We can not afford to find ourselves out on the battlefield without one piece of our armor. But, if we will put the whole armor of God on, then we will be able to stand. We won't have to bend we won't have to bow, but we can stand!!
Victory is ours if we will just obtain and use this key.
